Government Gardens W.A - 1904

You can probably read the message well enough for yourself, but I can tell you it was addressed to someone in Ballarat. It left Kalgoolie on the 14th of November 1904, and arrived in Ballarat at 10:45am on the 21st. Pretty good mail speed for 1904. It’s only marginally faster now!

Salt Heaps After Rain - 1908

Postmarked 30th November, 1908

Dear (Name unreadable),
I hope you will forgive me for being long in writing you. I thought I would just send you a p.c. to let you know I have not forgotten you. We had a very nice trip that time and I think it did Uncle Jim a lot of good. Love to all, Aunt.

It’s SALT HEAPS people. Life was pretty dang exciting in 1908.

Dear M,
Pleased to receive your post card. Hope all are well. Been having such a lot of rain. What a splendid picture of the pond is on the Post Card. Hope to be able to send you some views of W.A now. Has a p.c from L–. Give kind regards to Mr Green. I am glad he saw his uncle before he died. The coach has not come as yet as roads are so bad. Love to all and self from E.

Little bit worn out this poor old card, but considering the great age of it, hardly a surprise!

Perth from Kings Park

There’s writing on the back, but frankly it’s too tiny and too late at night for me to type it up. Also it’s undated, so all I know about it is what you see here!

Whyalla, South Australia

I’m not 100% sure this is even a postcard, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be. It’s been pasted into something at some stage, and until I scanned it I didn’t realise it was tinted. Shows what I notice huh? The backing is metallic, and it’s all very sprauncy.

Dear R,
I am just the juicy grasshopper, hoping you are well. I will see you Sunday afternoon the same place the same time. I am having a good time. With love from E. D

Possibly the most wonderfully cryptic message on any of my cards. Whatever can it mean??

Dear Mum and Dad,
Just a few lines to let you know we arrived safely. We had a lovely trip down, the train is super. They brought around morning tea.
We have a very nice room, the meals are quite good. I am eating a little better. I have been worrying about Mum but when I rang up S said she was so much better. That has satisfied me a bit. It is a lovely spot here, the water is beautiful. Mum don’t do any work or anything until I come home and get plenty of rest. I do hope your leg is better today, I haven’t got any news much at the moment, but I thought I would just write and wish you all the very best of health and happiness for the new year. Lots of love, P.

This card was written in the Westward Ho hotel, and you’re burning to see an old postcard of that very same hotel, you can click here (I bought them from different people and they arrived on the same day - spoooooooooky)

Dear Mrs M,
As you can see I arrived safely in Hobart and already I’ve taken several trips & seen most of the place. I seem to have left Sydney at the right time with a temp of 107. It would suit you here because it’s typical British weather, quite cool with occasional rain. it is very much like England here with Hawthorne hedges and daisies in the fields.
I trust you are all enjoying Xmas & that Mrs W has been able to join in the Xmas spirit. Cheerio for now, love K.

Dated but without year (I love them dated!).

Dear Mum and Dad,
I have just completed a week here. The weather has been very changable. There’s plenty of [something[ and plenty of the 19th. How are you, all well there. How’s Phil. See you all soon. Love, C

Dear Poppy! Arrived safely. Come back tomorrow. Love Laney. Love From Steve. Love from Eva to Poppy and Frank

Only half this one is even in focus! It’s a nice sweeping beach scene though, showing West Point at Sandy Bay.
